Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara has announced a fresh increase in financial support for Premier League clubs, with each participating team set to receive NLe225,000 in seed money for the 2026/27 season.
The new allocation represents a NLe25,000 increase from the previous NLe200,000, amounting to a 12.5 percent rise for each club.
Kamara made the announcement on Friday evening during the Leone Rock Premier League Awards Night at the Bintumani Hotel, as the domestic top-flight competition prepares for a new 16-team format.
The reduction from 18 to 16 clubs means the financial allocation has been adjusted alongside other efforts to strengthen the organisation and sustainability of the league.
The SLFA President said the decision forms part of his administration’s broader efforts to improve the standard and management of domestic football, while commending the Premier League Board, led by Chairman Osman Tommy, for overseeing what he described as one of the most successful seasons in recent years.
Kamara also pointed to the increase in payments to match officials as another measure introduced under his administration.
He disclosed that referees’ fees have risen from NLe700 to NLe2,000 since he took office approximately one year ago.
The SLFA President said the association has also expanded its management of domestic competitions, organising the Men’s and Women’s Premier Leagues, FA Cup, Division One and Division Two competitions.
Among the developments highlighted was the implementation of the FIFA Connect system, alongside improvements in administrative procedures and disciplinary management.
