The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a planned power interruption from Wednesday, August 12, to Friday, August 14, 2026, to facilitate critical works related to the integration of the 108.4MW NANT Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant into Sierra Leone’s national electricity grid.
According to EDSA, the interruption will occur daily from 9:00 a.m. as engineers undertake works to safely relocate and convert the existing Blackhall Road-Ropoti 33kV sub-transmission line, which currently crosses the NANT project site in Kissy.
The affected overhead line will be converted into an underground cable system, which will serve as the permanent feeder connection between the Blackhall Road and Ropoti substations.
EDSA said the works form part of the ongoing NANT Power Project, which is expected to significantly increase Sierra Leone’s electricity generation capacity and improve the reliability and stability of power supply.
The Authority said arrangements have been made to maintain electricity supply to essential services during the planned interruption, including Jui Hospital and the Government Hospital at Rokupa.
The interruption is expected to primarily affect customers and communities along the Portee-Waterloo corridor.
EDSA has apologised to the public for any inconvenience the planned interruption may cause and appealed for patience and cooperation as the works are carried out to support the expansion, reliability and long-term development of Sierra Leone’s electricity infrastructure.
