The National Publicity Secretariat of the All People’s Congress (APC) has disowned claims made by the party’s flagbearer aspirant, Mr Mohamed Omodu Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban, and expressed regret over some of his statements.
In a statement described as being “replete with factual inaccuracies and disparaging insinuations that do not reflect the reality,” the Secretariat said the APC had won elections long before Mr Kamara emerged on the political scene.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mohamed Pope Kamara, was responding to allegations that $200,000 had been disbursed to the party’s leadership in Bombali District, with Makeni serving as the operational headquarters.
According to Mohamed Pope Kamara, he personally contacted the National Chairman, National Secretary General, Regional Chairman and Bombali District Chairman, all of whom “categorically and unanimously” denied any knowledge of such a transaction or its alleged beneficiaries.
He further explained that the $80,000 referenced was spent to facilitate the printing process, noting that other prospective flagbearers also contributed towards the initiative.
The APC, he said, appreciated the contributions made by the prospective flagbearers in support of the party’s activities.
Mohamed Pope Kamara stressed that it was the APC’s responsibility to defend its image and clarify issues that could damage the party’s reputation.
“At this point, the APC has not received any such financial contribution from Mr Kamara,” he stated.
The Publicity Secretariat’s response comes amid ongoing political activities within the APC as prospective flagbearers continue to position themselves ahead of the party’s flagbearer selection process.
