The Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, continued nationwide regional consultations on local governance and decentralisation in Bo City, following the launch exercise in Kenema on Friday 14th August,2026.
Delivering his speech, VP Jalloh stated. “This meeting does not dictate actions; it represents a learning process. We listen to local governance challenges.”
The vice president further explained that the decision to decentralise consultations in Freetown regions was intended to strengthen government engagement with local institutions, ensuring national policies reflect community-level realities.
He highlighted ongoing reforms in land governance administration, health, social welfare, and other sectors, stressing the importance of ensuring local authorities and traditional institutions understand and contribute to implementation.
Additionally, the Bo engagement featured the inauguration of the Regional Coordination Committee Southern Region, expected to strengthen coordination among local governance actors.
Also, the Vice President acknowledged World Bank support for the decentralisation agenda and willingness to provide further assistance. Inter-Ministerial Committee on local governance decentralisation remains committed to taking the consultation process across all regions.
Finally, the regional consultations will subsequently deepen at the district level, with VP Jalloh announcing plans to spend two days in each district engaging stakeholders on challenges affecting local governance, including chiefdom-council relationships.
