The president of the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU), Ibrahim Bankapoma Kargbo, says a government pledge to promote about 3,000 teachers has not yet been implemented, raising concerns over conditions in the education sector.
Kargbo made the remarks in a video statement, saying the promised promotion exercise remains outstanding despite earlier commitments linked to education sector reforms.
He said the delay is part of wider concerns raised by teachers regarding welfare issues, including salary-related challenges and other administrative matters affecting educators across the country.
The SLTU leader also said teachers continue to face difficult working conditions while awaiting progress on promised reforms aimed at improving the sector.
His comments reflect ongoing concerns raised by the union about compensation, staffing, and government support within the education system.
The union has also previously called for improvements in education funding mechanisms, saying delays in support place pressure on schools and staff.
Kargbo, however, maintained that the union prefers dialogue with government authorities rather than industrial action to resolve outstanding issues.
The remarks add to continued calls from the teaching profession for clearer timelines on reforms and improved working conditions.
