“Mr Selfie” is a highly popular conscious single by the legendary Sierra Leonean artist Aruna Wahid Dumbuya, widely known as Sir Wahid – a social Commentary Song that highlights the selfish and greedy characteristics of people that impede development in the country.
The track speaks powerfully to the selfishness that is deeply embedded in society—from ordinary individuals to those entrusted with leadership. It portrays people who seize every opportunity for themselves and their families, with little or no regard for the common good.
Sir Wahid takes the message beyond greed and selfish ambition. It shines a light on the many social ills that can arise from unchecked selfish desires, including sexual harassment in schools and colleges, the rape and exploitation of women and children, abuse of power, corruption, dishonesty, and other vices that destroy individuals, families, and communities.
“Mr Selfie” functions as a scathing critique of greed, selfishness, and the “me first” mentality within modern society and leadership. Produced by Yung Lee as part of his “You Vs Unsolved” album.
