Sierra Leone has named its final 14-man squad for the country’s debut at the ILT20 Africa Continental Cup, scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 8 to 19, 2026.
The tournament will bring together five African nations, with Sierra Leone joining hosts Rwanda, Uganda, Botswana and Kenya in the continental competition.
Sierra Leone will begin its campaign on Tuesday against Kenya before facing two-time defending champions Uganda on Wednesday at the Gahanga Oval in Kigali.
The national cricket team enters the tournament as a newcomer, with the competition providing an important platform for Sierra Leonean players to gain experience against some of Africa’s established associate cricket nations.
Uganda, the reigning champions, will be seeking to retain the title after winning the previous two editions of the competition.
Sierra Leone’s participation also comes amid growing efforts to develop cricket talent across Africa. The ILT20 has previously supported emerging players from African associate nations through its player-development programme, providing opportunities for players from countries including Sierra Leone, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Botswana.
Sierra Leonean cricketer Samuel Conteh was among the African players who benefited from the development programme during the 2025–26 ILT20 season.
With its 14-man squad now confirmed, Sierra Leone will look to make a strong impression on its continental debut and use the tournament as an opportunity to further develop its players and strengthen the country’s presence in African cricket.
