Former SLPP Spokesperson and Minister of Internal Affairs, Lahai Lawrence Leema, has declared that he will not accept any appointment in President Julius Maada Bio’s government during what he described as the administration’s “evening hours.”
Speaking on Truth Media’s Morning Devotion programme today, Leema said he would rather reject an offer from President Bio than serve at this stage and “get a bad name.”
He further revealed that he has kept his membership in the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) dormant and no longer wishes to actively participate in the party’s affairs.
“I don’t want to be an active participant in the SLPP anymore,” Leema stated.
The former minister also declared his ambition to become the next President of Sierra Leone. He further disclosed plans to retrieve funds he had reportedly deposited with the party to upgrade his status as Distinguished Grand Chief Patron.
Leema’s remarks are expected to spark fresh political debate over his future and his possible next move on Sierra Leone’s political stage.
