Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health is encouraging people experiencing mental health challenges to seek support as part of efforts to prevent suicide.

The ministry’s Directorate of Mental Health and Non-Communicable Diseases is raising awareness about suicide prevention and directing members of the public to the country’s mental health support line.

According to the awareness message, individuals who need assistance can call the toll-free number 5116 for support.

The 5116 helpline was launched by the Ministry of Health to provide mental health support to people seeking assistance.

Government health policy documents identify the Directorate of Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health as responsible for mental health services within the Ministry of Health.

The ministry’s latest awareness effort is aimed at encouraging people to seek help rather than face mental health difficulties alone.

The campaign carries the message “Salone Big Pass Wi All,” reinforcing a call for support and care for people experiencing emotional or psychological distress.
