Outgoing Port Loko Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC), Ali Suma, has apologized to party supporters who were unhappy with his decision to seek legal clarification over the extension of the party’s executive tenure.
Suma said his decision to take the matter to court was intended to obtain a clear legal interpretation of the tenure extension, but acknowledged that the action had contributed to tensions within the party.
“I am apologizing to the APC that are unhappy with me,” Suma said, while confirming that he had instructed his lawyer to withdraw the matter from court.
His legal action had attracted significant attention and scrutiny within the APC, particularly amid ongoing disagreements over the extension of the executive’s mandate.
However, records surrounding the matter show that although Suma filed papers challenging the tenure extension, the interim injunction issued by the High Court on August 27, 2026, against the APC executive was granted following an ex parte application filed by plaintiffs Alfred Peter Conteh and Hon. Mohamed Sheridan Kamara.
Suma’s decision to withdraw his case is now expected to reduce some of the legal and internal tensions within the opposition party as it continues efforts to address questions surrounding its leadership and internal governance.
