Three residents of Freetown have reportedly been shot dead following a violent incident involving supporters of Kroo Town Road Football Club and the office of All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirant, Sheik Alhaji Mohamed Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban, on Wellington Street, off Siaka Stevens Street, in Freetown.
The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of Sunday, September 13, 2026, after Kroo Town Road FC was defeated by Kossoh Town FC in a football match.
According to accounts from people in the area, tensions escalated after some Kroo Town Road supporters allegedly targeted Jagaban’s office, reportedly because of his support for Kossoh Town FC.
The office was reportedly stoned as the situation became increasingly tense, prompting the intervention of the Sierra Leone Police in an effort to restore order.
According to eyewitness accounts from the vicinity of Choithram Supermarket in the Kroo Town Road area, the incident began around a burial ceremony at a mosque on Siaka Stevens Street, opposite Upper Brook Street, before the confrontation reportedly spread towards Wellington Street.
Three supporters are reported to have sustained gunshot injuries during the police intervention and subsequently died. However, the circumstances surrounding the alleged shootings, including the identities of those allegedly killed and the exact sequence of events, had not been independently confirmed at the time of reporting.
The incident has raised concerns over the escalation of football-related tensions into violence and the safety of political and public spaces in Freetown.
