The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has suspended the COFA League indefinitely following violent incidents linked to Saturday’s match between Kossoh Tong and Krootown Road.
The decision takes immediate effect and comes after the violence reportedly escalated on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in the Krootown Road community, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property.
In a statement, WAFA described the developments as a serious threat to football, public order, and the safety of people and property, stressing that football must not become a catalyst for violence or a platform for retaliation.
The Association said it will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents and take appropriate regulatory and disciplinary measures based on its findings.
WAFA also acknowledged the indefinite postponement announced by COFA for the scheduled fixture between Kossoh Tong and Fourah Bay. However, the Association said that measure alone was insufficient given the gravity of the situation and the prevailing security concerns.
As a result, WAFA directed that no COFA fixture should be played until further notice or until formally directed otherwise by the Association.
The football authority has called on players, clubs, supporters, and community stakeholders to remain calm and exercise restraint as investigations continue.
WAFA emphasised that the preservation of human life and public safety must take precedence over football.
