The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), through the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA), Hastings Campus, has commenced a two-week specialised training programme for 69 recruits of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA).
The recruits arrived at SILEA on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, where they completed registration and verification before undergoing a familiarisation tour of the Academy and being assigned to their accommodation facilities.
With the programme scheduled for only two weeks, SILEA Commandant ACP Brima Kamara Esq. ensured that formal training began promptly on Thursday, September 17, with the recruits receiving instruction in parade formation and basic drills.
The official opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the SLPHA and senior officers of the Sierra Leone Police.
Speaking on behalf of the SLP, ACP Kamara welcomed the initiative and commended SLPHA management for entrusting SILEA with the responsibility of providing the specialised training.
He urged the recruits to approach the programme with discipline, seriousness and commitment, emphasising the importance of translating classroom knowledge into practical performance.
“The classroom gives you the knowledge; the workplace gives you the test,” ACP Kamara told the recruits.
He further encouraged them to demonstrate professionalism, commitment and a willingness to learn throughout the programme, noting that the skills and knowledge gained would enhance their effectiveness in carrying out their responsibilities.
Representing the SLPHA, Director of Security and Intelligence Sheku Umar Sesay and Director of Human Resources Alhassan George highlighted the longstanding working relationship between the Ports and Harbours Authority and the Sierra Leone Police.
They encouraged the recruits to make full use of the training opportunity and apply the knowledge, skills and professional values acquired at SILEA in the execution of their duties.
The programme is expected to strengthen the recruits’ discipline, practical skills and professional capacity as they prepare to undertake their respective responsibilities within the SLPHA.
The opening ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from one of the recruits, Kasim Jalloh, who expressed appreciation to SILEA management, instructors and the SLPHA for providing the opportunity for the recruits to develop their knowledge, discipline and practical skills.
