Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio, has been hosted by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at a reception held in her honour ahead of a joint presentation.
The reception brought the First Lady together with representatives of the two globally recognised institutions, which are known for their work in education, research, innovation and knowledge.
In a statement following the reception, Fatima Bio described the occasion as a “profound honour” and highlighted the significance of the two institutions’ contributions to addressing global challenges.
The First Lady is expected to speak during the joint presentation about women’s health, an issue she said is deeply important to her.
She will also highlight the importance of meaningful collaboration between Africa and leading global institutions in strengthening health systems and advancing research.
Fatima Bio said Africa should not only be part of global health discussions but should also play a role in shaping solutions to challenges affecting communities across the continent and beyond.
She noted that collaboration between Africa and leading institutions could create opportunities to advance research, strengthen health systems and improve the lives of women and girls.
The engagement forms part of the First Lady’s participation in discussions focused on women’s health and the role of Africa in advancing a more inclusive global health community.
