A shop assistant accused of stealing Le 30,000 from his employer has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after his initial court appearance.
The defendant, Abu Bakarr Fornah, appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2, where he faces a single count of larceny as a servant under Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
Court records indicate that the alleged incident occurred on Aug. 31, 2026, around 2 p.m., at 14 Malama Thomas Street in Freetown. Prosecutors allege that Fornah, who was employed by Fatu Bangura, stole Le 30,000 belonging to his employer.
During the hearing, the charge was read and explained to the defendant, but no plea was entered as the case remains at the committal stage of proceedings.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, who is leading the prosecution, told the court that the defendant had been properly served with copies of the case file and supporting inquiry documents.
The magistrate denied bail, citing the seriousness of the allegation, and ordered the accused to be remanded in custody.
The case was adjourned to Sept. 25, 2026, for further hearing.
