Freetown Hosts 6th National Female Quranic Competition
Freetown is playing host to Sierra Leone’s 6th National Female Quranic Competition this Sunday at the Bintumani Conference Centre at Aberdeen.
The competition is the principal female Quranic competition in Sierra Leone organised by the Islamic organisation, Ibn Alie Network.
The organisers announced days ago that the guest speaker of the competition is notable US-based Ghanaian Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abdul Rashid.
Sheikh Abdul Rashid is well known among Muslims in Sierra Leone for his touching lectures most times taken from Quranic verses. Last week Friday, Sheikh Abdul Rashid was the Imam at the Freetown Central Mosque at Rokupa, Wellington, where he delivered the sermon and led Muslim faithfuls to prayers.
The organisers of the event said that the competition is aimed at providing the platform for female Sierra Leonean Quranic students to showcase their talents while building the spiritual life of Muslims, especially young people.
While the grand prize is yet to be announced, over the years, winners and runners-up take home cash benefits and scholarship opportunities, as well as a platform to represent Sierra Leone in international Quranic competitions.
