Pujehun District Council Mobilises Residents for Township-Wide Cleaning Exercise
Sahid Bangura The Pujehun District Council has concluded its quarterly township cleaning exercise, bringing together council staff, community stakeholders, residents and local partners to improve environmental sanitation and public health across Pujehun Township.
The exercise, held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, covered key areas including Pujehun Town, Gobaru, Yonni and Massam, as well as surrounding communities such as Manjama, Kpangba, Booro and Liyawo.
Participants cleared accumulated waste, overgrown vegetation and debris from major roads, public spaces and other communal areas as part of efforts to improve cleanliness and reduce environmental health risks.
Mohamed M.G.T. Pessima, Solid Waste Management Focal Point at the Pujehun District Council, stressed the importance of sustained community participation in maintaining a clean environment.
He urged residents to dispose of waste properly and avoid practices that obstruct drainage channels or contribute to environmental degradation.
Pessima also acknowledged the support of Chief Minister Dr David Moinina Sengeh, a native of Pujehun District, towards the sanitation initiative.
The Council further called on businesses, commercial motorbike riders and community leaders to take greater responsibility for the cleanliness of their immediate surroundings and participate in future sanitation activities.
Residents, including Juana Koroma, joined local groups and council personnel during the exercise, reflecting community participation in the initiative.
The quarterly cleaning drive forms part of the Council’s broader efforts to improve public sanitation, reduce conditions that can contribute to disease transmission and maintain cleanliness across the township.
The Council concluded by encouraging residents to make proper waste management and daily sanitation a regular community practice rather than relying solely on scheduled cleaning exercises.
