Peace Commission Intervenes in Bike Riders’ Dispute
Guest Contributor Tensions among bike riders were brought under control on 25 September 2026 following concerns raised over the activities of the Bike Riders Union and the treatment of riders by some road security personnel.
The riders raised concerns about what they described as exploitation by some members of the Union, police officers, traffic wardens and other road security personnel. They also complained that the Union was not doing enough to protect their interests when disputes arise.
According to the riders, some matters involving their members were being referred to the police instead of being addressed through the Union, adding to their frustration.
As tensions increased, Peace Commission Mediator Mr. Joseph Blackie and AIG South, Mr. Joseph Lahai, intervened to engage the riders and prevent the situation from escalating.
Through dialogue, the riders were given the opportunity to explain their concerns, while all sides were encouraged to resolve their differences peacefully.
District Chairperson of the Bike Riders Union, Mr. Mohamed Kamara, and the Union’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Idrissa Kuyateh, expressed their commitment to peace and willingness to work with all parties to address the concerns through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The intervention helped calm the situation and created room for further engagement on the concerns raised by the riders.
