Kamalo Regent Chief Returns After Security Scare in Chiefdom
The Regent Chief of Kamalo Chiefdom in Karene District, Pa Komirabai Momodu Sesay, has returned to the chiefdom to resume his leadership duties after temporarily leaving the area due to security concerns.
His departure followed unrest in Sahun, a mining community within the chiefdom, after the death of a young man. The incident reportedly triggered a reaction from some youths, during which two houses and a vehicle were burnt.
Following the incident, an engagement was held with leaders from the 17 sections of Kamalo Chiefdom to formally receive the Regent Chief and discuss his safety, as well as the need to maintain peace and stability in the chiefdom.
The engagement brought together Edward A.V. Koroma, North-West Regional Coordinator of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC); District Officer Abdulai Koroma; District Security Coordinator John S. Conteh; District Council Chairman Abdul Kondeh; Local Unit Commander John S. Koroma; Mining Chairman Abubakarr Dumbuya; civil society representative Duramany Boima; and community leaders.

Local Unit Commander John S. Koroma and District Security Coordinator John S. Conteh informed residents that investigations into the incident were ongoing. They appealed for calm and urged community members to allow the appropriate authorities to handle the matter.
District Council Chairman Abdul Kondeh also welcomed the Regent Chief’s return and called on residents to maintain calm and support efforts to preserve peace in the chiefdom.
The engagement concluded with the symbolic handing over of the Regent Chief to the 17 Section Chiefs in the presence of representatives of the Peace Commission, the Karene District Security Committee and other stakeholders.
