The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the protection of resources intended for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and increase their participation in the fight against corruption.

The agreement, signed on October 1, 2026, will focus on improving collaboration, raising anti-corruption awareness among PWDs, strengthening reporting mechanisms, and promoting greater involvement of persons with disabilities in accountability processes.

NCPD Chairman and Chief Commissioner Brima Abdulai Sheriff said the partnership must move beyond commitments on paper and translate into practical action.

Sheriff stressed that PWDs should not only benefit from accountability initiatives but should also become active participants in promoting transparency and fighting corruption.

“Disability is not a ticket for corruption and lawlessness,” he said, while disclosing that he has proposed allocating a percentage of recovered corruption proceeds to the NCPD.

ACC Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie said the partnership should help shift the focus from dependency towards systems that recognise PWDs as citizens with equal rights and opportunities.

He encouraged persons with disabilities to report suspected corruption through the ACC’s established communication channels, stressing the importance of their role in protecting public resources.

The two institutions are expected to focus on sensitisation, stronger reporting mechanisms and increased participation of PWDs as the MoU moves into implementation.
