SLRSA Cracks Down on Fraudulent Vehicle Licences, Five Arrested After Cyber Intrusion
The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has intensified measures against the circulation of fraudulent vehicle licences following an unauthorised cyber intrusion into its information technology systems.
The Authority disclosed in a public notice issued on Friday, September 2, 2026, that the security breach resulted in the production and circulation of fraudulent vehicle licences, prompting investigations into the matter.
According to the SLRSA, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police has arrested five individuals who are not employees of the Authority. The suspects are currently assisting the Police with ongoing investigations.
The SLRSA has urged members of the public who are uncertain about the authenticity of their vehicle licences to visit any of its offices nationwide for verification.
The Authority has also warned the public against individuals who falsely claim to represent the SLRSA, stressing that it is a public institution distinct from insurance companies and other insurance service providers.
Members of the public have been advised to verify the identity and official status of anyone claiming to represent the Authority before conducting transactions, providing personal information or making payments.
The SLRSA further cautioned against patronising unauthorised individuals, agents or intermediaries offering to process vehicle licences or other SLRSA services outside the Authority’s established systems and offices.
It emphasised that all vehicle licences and related services must be processed through officially designated SLRSA offices and authorised channels nationwide.
The Authority said it remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of its systems, strengthening its processes and ensuring that legitimate road users receive secure and authentic documentation.
“Stay Alert! Verify Your Licence! Use Official SLRSA Channels!” the Authority advised.
