Port Loko District Council Holds September Monthly Sitting, Reviews Development Activities

The Port Loko District Council has held its monthly sitting for September 2026, reviewing key development activities and challenges affecting communities across the district. The sitting was held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Council Hall and was chaired by Councillor Abubakarr Koroma on behalf of Council Chairman Musa Idris Kanu.

The meeting commenced with prayers, followed by introductions, adoption of the agenda, a welcome address and opening remarks. During the sitting, councillors raised concerns from their respective communities, including the construction and condition of local bridges, school development, community health centres and the impact of flooding, particularly around Gbereh Junction.

Giving an update on the Council’s activities during September, Deputy Chief Administrator Mohamed Mansaray, who represented Chief Administrator Arthur Alieu, highlighted several programmes and engagements undertaken during the month. He said the Council is working with development partners to promote food diversification across Port Loko District under the “Vision 2030” initiative, with the aim of improving the availability of locally produced food within the district.

Mansaray also informed councillors that the District Disaster Management Committee had held its first reintroduction meeting, aimed at strengthening coordination on disaster-related issues across the district.
He further disclosed that nline through MCC will soon conduct assessment on electricity outage and supply, reliability and need for expansion in rural communities. He also added that UNOPS and the Ministry of Energy, is implementing an ongoing project to provide solar energy to 66 schools and 13 (PHUs) across the district.

The Deputy Chief Administrator also reported that the Council had made its second payment under the Accountable Governance Project.
Other activities highlighted included stakeholder engagements and the procurement of chairs and a table for the Council. The sitting also featured updates from financial and sector heads, providing councillors with information on activities and developments within their respective areas of responsibility.

The meeting provided an opportunity for councillors and Council officials to review ongoing development initiatives, raise community concerns and discuss measures aimed at improving service delivery across Port Loko District.
