Leone Stars Falls Eight Places to 130th in Latest FIFA Rankings

Leone Stars suffered the biggest ranking decline in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking, falling eight places to 130th after two defeats in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

FIFA’s latest ranking, published Oct. 7, confirms the Leone Stars’ drop from 122nd, their position in the previous official ranking. FIFA identified Sierra Leone as the biggest faller by ranking positions in the latest update.

The decline follows losses in both of Sierra Leone’s recent AFCON 2027 qualifying matches. Reuters also reported that the two defeats were responsible for the eight-place slide.

The setback adds pressure around the national team as it continues its AFCON qualifying campaign under coach Gomes. However, the ranking itself reflects results and FIFA’s ranking calculations rather than serving as a direct assessment of the coach’s performance.

Sierra Leone’s previous 122nd position had been its best ranking of 2026 at that stage, according to FIFA’s historical ranking information.

The Leone Stars will now have to wait until the next international window for an opportunity to improve their position. FIFA’s next men’s world ranking is scheduled for Nov. 18, 2026.
