Police Engage Community Safety Volunteers on Discipline, Security in Zimmi
The Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Mano River Union (MRU) Division, Superintendent Solomon S. Conteh, has urged Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs) in Makpele Chiefdom to maintain strict discipline, integrity, and professionalism as part of ongoing efforts to bolster security across the chiefdom.
Superintendent Conteh made the call during a familiarisation visit to Zimmi, where he met with CSVs, chiefdom authorities, representatives from the Office of National Security (ONS), and members of the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB).
Addressing the gathering, Superintendent Conteh underscored the vital role of volunteer security groups in maintaining local order. He called for the establishment of a comprehensive database for CSV members, improved record-keeping, and the implementation of regular training and refresher courses to enhance operational effectiveness.
However, he delivered a stern warning against misconduct, cautioning volunteers against engaging in active politics, criminal activities, or drug trafficking.
“Integrity and professionalism must remain paramount,” Conteh stated, warning that aiding and abetting crime would not be tolerated within the volunteer ranks.
The meeting highlighted underlying tensions regarding local security coordination. Mr. Abdulai Kallon, the ONS Coordinator for Makpele Chiefdom, raised concerns over alleged unlawful acts involving certain CSVs, including reports of collaboration with drug smugglers.
Kallon also called for stronger coordination among security actors and better attendance at Chiefdom Security Committee (CHISEC) meetings.

In response, LPPB Chairman Mr. Jayah Konneh dismissed the allegations against his executive as baseless, maintaining that the leadership remains active and committed to supervising volunteer operations.
Konneh commended Superintendent Conteh for his leadership and praised the dedication of the CSVs, noting that over 500 trained volunteers have played a crucial role in curbing crime across the MRU Division.
Reminding the volunteers that community policing demands patience and sacrifice, he reaffirmed the board’s commitment to supporting official security apparatuses.
The engagement concluded with a joint pledge from security stakeholders, community leaders, and CSV representatives to strengthen communication, accountability, and multi-agency collaboration to ensure long-term peace and stability in Makpele Chiefdom.
