The Government of Sierra Leone has intensified efforts to educate the public on cybersecurity threats through a mobile awareness campaign targeting communities, marketplaces and public spaces across the Western Area.

The campaign, which continued on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, is being implemented by the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NC3), in collaboration with the National Communications Authority and the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation (MoCTI).

The initiative seeks to equip citizens with practical knowledge to identify and prevent common cyber threats, including WhatsApp account takeover scams, mobile money fraud and other forms of online exploitation. It also promotes awareness of cyber-related laws and encourages safer and more responsible use of digital technologies.

As part of the outreach, mobile teams have visited communities and commercial centres, including Waterloo, Tombo, Tokeh Village, Congo Market, Funkia Market, Bombay, Jui, Grafton, Aberdeen Market and Congo Town Market.

To reach a wider audience, the campaign uses cybersecurity jingles and songs in major local languages to explain online risks, digital rights and responsibilities. Informational flyers and awareness stickers are also being distributed to transport operators, apprentices, pedestrians, schoolchildren, petty traders, business owners, market women and other community members.

The campaign comes amid growing reliance on digital services for communication, business transactions and financial activities, increasing the importance of public awareness about online fraud and other cybersecurity risks.

Through the mobile outreach, the government aims to make cybersecurity information more accessible to people across different communities and encourage citizens to adopt practical measures to protect their accounts, personal information and financial transactions.

The organisers are urging members of the public to engage with the awareness teams whenever the mobile van visits their communities and to share the information with others as part of efforts to promote a safer and more secure digital environment in Sierra Leone.
