The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has warned police officers and members of the public against a fake press release circulating on social media concerning the promotion of long-serving police officers.

In a statement dated Saturday, 17 October 2026, the SLP clarified that it had not issued any official press release on the promotion of long-serving officers, describing the circulating document as fake and urging the public not to treat it as an official communication.

The police identified several irregularities in the purported press release, including the absence of the official SLP logo, the use of the name Mr Bobson as a contact person, and a false signature purportedly belonging to the Inspector General of Police.

The SLP also disassociated itself from the telephone number +232 79 177605, which the fake document reportedly presented as the contact number for the Head of Police Media.

The police have advised officers to disregard the document and refrain from acting on any information contained in it.

Members of the public, particularly those hoping to benefit from promotions for long-serving officers, have also been warned against giving money or sharing personal information with anyone claiming to facilitate such promotions, as they could be targeted by fraudsters.

The SLP encouraged the public and police officers to rely solely on its official and verified communication channels for accurate information. For further clarification, the public can contact the police on 075771313.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to providing accurate, reliable and timely information to the public.
