Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has committed to ensuring the construction of the Kabala-Makeni Road is completed by the end of 2027, according to Minister of State at the Office of the Vice President, Manty Tarawalli.

Tarawalli announced the commitment on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s Civic Day Series in Kabala, Koinadugu District, where government officials engaged residents on development priorities.

She said the proposed road project would improve connectivity between Kabala and Makeni, making it easier for residents, traders and farmers to transport goods and access essential services.

Tarawalli highlighted the road’s economic importance, noting that improved transportation infrastructure would facilitate trade, create opportunities for businesses and strengthen agricultural activities in Koinadugu and surrounding communities.

The commitment comes amid longstanding concerns about infrastructure and access to basic services in the district, where residents continue to face challenges with transportation, electricity and water supply.

During the engagement, Koinadugu District Council Chairperson Lawrence Teteh Kargbo outlined the council’s development priorities, including plans to introduce a District Development Plan to coordinate interventions by nongovernmental organizations and development partners.

He stressed that organizations operating in the district would be required to align their projects with the local development framework and the National Development Plan.

“No NGO will work in this district without working with the District Development Plan, which is in line with the National Development Plan,” Kargbo stated.

He also disclosed that the council had completed a new hospital estimated to have cost 400,000 new leones, while appealing for government intervention to address persistent electricity and water shortages.

Tarawalli also highlighted government support for agriculture, particularly initiatives targeting female farmers through free seeds, practical training, agricultural equipment, loans and insurance facilities.

The Civic Day engagement provided an opportunity for residents and local authorities to raise concerns about development needs and discuss government commitments, with the proposed Kabala-Makeni Road emerging as a key infrastructure priority for the district.
