A man using a Sierra Leonean passport has been arrested at Port Harcourt International Airport after excreting 62 wraps of heroin.
The suspect, identified as Kargbo Mohamed Foday, arrived on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha, transiting through Abuja. A body scan confirmed the presence of ingested drugs, leading to an observation period during which he expelled 1.348 kilograms of heroin.
Investigations revealed that Foday also holds a Nigerian passport under the name Onyekwonike Elochuckwu Sylvanus, age 30. Authorities believe he uses both identities to facilitate international drug trafficking operations, with connections to Thailand, Pakistan, Iran, and various West African nations. Foday reportedly confessed to entering the drug trade in 2017 after his clothing and shoe business failed.
This arrest is part of a larger crackdown on drug trafficking by the Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
In a separate incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, another individual, James Herbert Chinoso, 48, was apprehended after excreting 63 wraps of heroin upon arrival from Madagascar via Ethiopia. Chinoso also claimed financial hardship due to a failed business venture in Liberia as the motive for his involvement in drug trafficking.
The NDLEA has also reported several other significant drug seizures across Nigeria. These include the interception of large quantities of synthetic cannabis, tramadol pills, and other illicit substances in Lagos, Kano, and Kogi State.
