Police in Senegal have arrested five Sierra Leoneans suspected of drug trafficking in the capital, Dakar.

The five suspects were caught and arrested in the Port of Dakar packaging narcotics.

Recent reports indicate that the five individuals have been presented to the prosecutor’s office in Dakar, where they will confront legal proceedings regarding their case.

Meanwhile, the Sierra Leonean embassy in the Senegalese capital is yet to reveal the actual circumstances that led to their arrest and their identity. This is the first time Sierra Leoneans have been arrested for drug peddling in Dakar in the recent past.

Recently, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Guinea, Alimamy Bangura, was recalled following an incident where authorities in Conakry found five suitcases containing suspected cocaine in his official vehicle.

Intelligence specialists have identified Sierra Leone and several other West African countries as important transit points for narcotics trafficking into Europe.
