A United States Law firm, Jenner and Block has sued Sierra Leone for 8 million US Dollars to a Court in the District of Columbia.
According to the firm, the West African nation has failed pay them legal fees owed for representing them against Gerald International Limited in an iron ore matter between 2019 and 2021.
Although Sierra Leone appraised the representation of the law firm, its legal team claimed that the agreement was 1.5 million US Dollars per year and not the 3.6 million US Dollar the firm is claiming. The country’s lawyers said the request by the law firm was beyond their legal agreement.
Lawyers for the Government of Sierra Leone told Reuters that the claim by the law firm was “the picture of murkiness” and the court should throw out the matter.
The matter will come up next in front of a Federal judge in Washington DC.
