Police have explained that seven people have allegedly attacked a guest house in Brikama to rescue their 17-year-old sex work-exposed sister.

In confirming the arrest of the seven and a woman suspected of being a human trafficker, police spokeswoman Binta Njie said: “They allegedly attacked the guest house as a result of information reaching them that their 17 year old sister was allegedly Trafficked to The Gambia and exposed to sex work, so they came to rescue and it ended in violence.

The suspected trafficker is arrested and helping police with investigation, the case is handed over to the Gender and child welfare unit of The GPF, the Sierra Leone High commission in The Gambia and the Agency responsible for the prohibition of Trafficking in person will be informed and involved.

“The number of people involved in the Trafficking is not yet confirmed as there are suspected contact persons in Sierra Leone who helped facilitate the process.”
