Sierraloaded is looking to recruit correspondents across all 16 districts of Sierra Leone.
This program was created to promote local storytelling across communities, towns, districts, and provinces in Sierra Leone. This represents the brand identity of Sierraloaded as a people-driven media organisation with the overarching goal of serving the lower Socioeconomic status and become a voice for those whose comments would not have passed the criteria for judging news values by traditional media.
This role requires you to report news, events, and exclusive content from your district on a weekly basis.
Working professionals, students, and media practitioners working for other media institutions are eligible to apply.
This is NOT A FULL TIME JOB. We expect that you have a primary job or commitment. This will only be secondary.
You will be required to write and send us a minimum of one (1) news story per week from your district. This has to be an original, independently gathered and researched story. We are interested in human interest, politics, and all other types of stories. Every story must have a visual element like a photo and/or video.
Apart from writing stories, we may give you other tasks such as covering events or carrying out investigations on behalf of Sierraloaded within your district.
You will NOT be paid any SALARY. You will ONLY be paid stipends for every story you write or every task you carry on behalf of Sierraloaded.
Apart from the stipend, this role will help you gain some experience in journalism, build a portfolio of published works on Sierraloaded, and contribute to your community.
Payments for stories will be between Le15 to Le50, depending on the quality of your story.
For other tasks, payments will be proportionate to the task given.
All earnings accumulated for each month will be paid at the beginning of the new month.
You will be assigned a Supervisor from the Sierraloaded team whom you are required to submit your story. You are obliged to work directly with this person or any other assigned Sierraloaded Staff on tasks given.
Please note that stories submitted to Sierraloaded must be exclusive to our platform. You will not receive payment for stories shared with other media platforms or posted on personal blogs prior to their publication on Sierraloaded.
This role involves a three-month probationary period. During this time, we will assess your performance. Upon successful completion of the probation period, you will receive a formal appointment letter as a Sierraloaded District Correspondent, along with an official Sierraloaded ID Card. Exceptional candidates will also considered for full-time employment opportunities at Sierraloaded.
If you are interested, please send sample of previous work(s) and your CV to [email protected] with the title “District Correspondent” and add the name of the district.
