The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, has engaged the World Bank in discussions on the Education Sector Plan and efforts to combat Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in schools.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, provided an opportunity for the Minister to present a new response model, known as the Five Rs, aimed at strengthening the response to cases of sexual and gender-based violence in schools.

The Five Rs include Recognising the signs, Recording the facts, Reporting through the appropriate channels, Referring survivors to relevant institutions, including the Police, Rainbow Initiative, and guidance counsellors, and Reviewing every case until justice is served.

According to Minister Sackey, discussions with the World Bank also focused on sustainability, prevention, the establishment of a Presidential Task Force to translate commitments into action, and the strengthening of school safety committees.

He further emphasised the importance of involving men and boys in the fight against SGBV, noting that they must take an active role rather than remain on the sidelines.

The Minister reiterated that schools should be safe, protective spaces for children, not environments where they experience fear.

He urged anyone with information about sexual and gender-based violence in schools to speak up and report such cases by calling 8060.
