Sierra Leonean rapper Drizilik has set a new benchmark for the country’s music industry after his album Ashobi surpassed one million streams on Boomplay, becoming the first Sierra Leonean music project reported to reach the milestone on the platform.
According to information released by the album’s promoters, Ashobi has now exceeded 1.2 million streams on Boomplay, Africa’s leading music streaming service, further extending its record as the country’s most-streamed project on the platform.
The achievement highlights the growing digital reach of Sierra Leonean music and reflects increasing audience engagement with local artists through streaming services.
Released with a blend of hip-hop, Afrobeats and Sierra Leonean influences, Ashobi features several popular tracks, including the title song featuring Idris Elba, as well as Dig Hole, Bad Padi and Lion. The album has attracted listeners across Sierra Leone, Africa and the diaspora since its release.
The reported milestone is expected to strengthen Drizilik’s standing as one of Sierra Leone’s leading contemporary artists while underscoring the expanding role of digital platforms in promoting the country’s music internationally.
