“I Don’t Want” – Vickie Remoe Rejects 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Award

Sierra Leonean blogger, online marketer, content producer, writer and TV Host, Vickie Remoe has declined and returned a 50 Most Influential Women Award presented over the weekend.

The Fifty Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Award is an initiative of twenty-two youth and women-led organizations supported by Kids Advocacy Network to spotlight and recognize important role women play towards national development in Sierra Leone and award and celebrate those women and few institutions that are contributing towards nation-building.

The 4th Edition of the 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Award took place on Saturday 12th June 2021 at Bintumani Conference Center. This year’s award is themed as “Breaking Barriers For Sustainable Development, The Solution Are Women.”

832 Women were nominated, 100 women were shortlisted and 50 Women were elected to receive the 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Award. They were awarded due to their services, sacrifice, devotion, innovation and relentless effort in contributing to the socio-economic, political and cultural development in Sierra Leone.

Vickie Remoe was among the 832 women nominated, landed among the 100 women shortlisted and finally woke up among the 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women. After receiving the award, the blogger declined and returned the award to the organizers.

On a letter she posted on her Facebook page, Vickie Remoe said she saw a list of people circulating on WhatsApp but she was never contacted from the organizers to brief her about the nomination. According to her, she does not even know the name of the organization and she was never told why she was nominated.

Vickie Remoe said she has asked the person that collected the award on her behalf to return it. She said she did not have any idea about the award ceremony. The blogger sent a warning to other organizations to ask for her consent before adding her to any lists or awards. Vickie Remoe described herself as a servitor; not an influential.
