On Tuesday 31 January 2023, Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio appointed Andrew Bob Johnny as the new Statistician-General of Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats_SL), after spending over 25 years at the institution.

In 1994, Andrew Bob Johnny joined Statistics Sierra Leone as an ordinary cartographer.

In 2004, he was made Director of Censuses and GIS, a position he held for 15 years.

In 2019 he was appointed as Deputy Statistician General.

Johnny holds a Master of Science in Geo-Information Management from the Prestigious Institute of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation in the Netherlands.

He will officially take over office on the 1st of April 2023, when the tenure of office of the current Statistician General ends on the 31st of March 2023.

Andrew Bob Johnny is seen as a beacon of institutional memory and will build on the gains made by his predecessor, Prof. Osman Sankoh.
