Meet Hon. Catherine Zainab Tarawally, our Woman Crush for this week.
Honourable Tarawally is Member of Parliament, serve as a dedicated representative for the 037 Constituency in the Bombali District, North Region of Sierra Leone.
She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration, as well as qualifications including a Bed, HND, OND, and Certificate.
Her advocacy is rooted in a strong belief in accountability and a genuine concern for the well-being of her constituents. Hon. Tarawally is particularly passionate about addressing pressing issues such as inadequate health facilities and the lack of access to clean water, affecting women, youth, and children.
She firmly believes that by empowering women and effectively utilizing available resources, fostering stronger international relationships, and creating better employment opportunities, these challenges can be overcome for the benefit of all Sierra Leoneans.
In March 2018, Honourable Tarawally contested for the position of Member of Parliament for Constituency 037 in the Bombali District Northern Region under the banner of the All People’s Congress Party (APC). Despite facing numerous challenges from her male competitors, she emerged victorious in the election.
Hon. Catherine Zainab Tarawally consistently advocates for accountability and respects others’ opinions, qualities that have earned her the respect of her parliamentary colleagues. As a testament to her leadership, she was appointed as the deputy chairman of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Parliament. Additionally, she serves as a Member of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Committee and the Local government and Rural Development Committee.
Having identified key constituency needs, such as drainage and road construction, access to clean water, electricity, and improved healthcare facilities for pregnant women and children, Hon. Tarawally actively works towards enacting effective legislation and providing oversight to ensure efficient service delivery to her constituents and the wider Sierra Leonean population.
