Meet our Man Crush for this week, Lt. Gen Brima Sesay.

An accomplished military officer and leader, Lt. Gen Brima Sesay was born on June 4, in Musaia, Folosaba Dembelia Chiefdom, Koinadugu District, in the Northern Region of Sierra Leone, he hails from the Yalunka ethnic group. With a strong educational background, Lt. Gen Sesay has dedicated his career to serving his country and honing his military expertise.

His academic journey began at the National Diamond Mining Company Nursery School, however he completed his primary education at the Roman Catholic Primary Schools. After studying in different school, he completed his sixth form at St Edwards Secondary School before he pursued higher education at Fourah Bay College where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in English Language and Political Science, and a Diploma in Education (BA DipEd). In addition, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Lt. Gen Sesay’s military career commenced after his university education. He enrolled in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) as an officer cadet and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on October 29, 1991. Throughout his military service, he underwent various military courses from different military institutions, even outside the country, to enhance his skills and knowledge. For his love for peace, he also participated in courses on legal aspects of the military, crisis management, defense management, peace support operations, and strategic studies.

Lt. Gen Sesay’s career progression within the RSLAF has been marked by numerous appointments, positions and achievements. He has served as a Platoon Commander, Adjutant, Company Commander, Staff Officer Grade 3 operations, Aide de Camp (ADC), Military Assistant (MA), Second in Command of the Infantry Training Centre (ITC), and more. Notably, he constructed the Infantry Training Centre. Lt. Gen Sesay has held positions such as SO3 J4 Combat Supplies, SO2 J4 Combat Supplies, Second in Command of the Joint Logistics Unit (JLU), and Commanding Officer of the Joint Logistics Units (JLU), where he became the first RSLAF officer to assume that role. He has also served as Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) of the Joint Force Headquarters (JFC), Commander of the 4 Infantry Brigade Makeni, Director of Personnel at the Ministry of Defense (MOD), Chief of Staff (COS) of the Joint Force Headquarters, and Commander of 3 Infantry Brigade Murray Town Barracks, Freetown. Additionally, he has been appointed Commander Joint Force (CJF) and Assistant Chief of Defense Staff Operations and Plans (ACDS Ops & Plans) at the Ministry of Defense. Lt. Gen Sesay’s exemplary performance in these roles has earned him respect and admiration from both superiors and subordinates.

Acknowledging his dedication and service to his country, Lt. Gen Sesay received the Ministerial Award for Meritorious and Dedicated Service to Colours and the country during the Armed Forces Day celebrations at the National Stadium, Freetown, in February 2009 in recognition of his outstanding achievements, he was honored with the Military Officer of the Year.
