Construction of a mega 500-bed hospital is at an accelerated pace. The new structure will see the 34 military hospital transformed into an ultramodern facility.

Engineers working on site have said the project, upon completion, will have space for 500 beds, an ultramodern centre of excellence for medical practice, an underground parking lot, nursing school and a special ward for women.

The project was launched earlier this year by President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Bio. It is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Sierra Leone’s health system is considered to be one of the poorest in the sub-region with lack of health facilities among some of the issues.
