Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health, Dr Austin Demby, has highlighted significant progress under the country’s 300 Days of Activism campaign as the national initiative reaches Day 178.
Dr Demby presented real-time data on Sierra Leone’s progress towards its ambitious Triple Zero targets alongside Dr Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
The Triple Zero targets aim to achieve zero preventable maternal deaths, zero preventable child deaths and zero-dose children across Sierra Leone.
At Day 178 of the 300-day campaign, maternal mortality has declined by 32.9 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Child mortality has also recorded a 12.4 per cent reduction, according to the latest figures presented by the Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile, of an estimated 9,006 zero-dose children nationwide, 8,347, representing 92.6 per cent, have been identified and vaccinated.
The figures highlight the progress recorded through the campaign’s efforts to improve health outcomes for women and children and expand access to essential healthcare services across the country.
The progress also reflects Dr Austin Demby’s vision of building a health system that leaves no one behind, while strengthening efforts to ensure that essential healthcare services reach communities across Sierra Leone.
With more than half of the 300 Days of Activism campaign completed, the latest figures provide a positive indication of Sierra Leone’s continued efforts to achieve its Triple Zero targets.
