Government Steps Up Ebola Preparedness as Health Authorities Intensify Coordination
Aaron Parker Efforts to strengthen preparedness against Ebola virus disease are gaining momentum in Sierra Leone, as the health sector intensifies coordination with development and technical partners to mitigate potential public health risks.
The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (Sierra Leone), working in collaboration with the National Public Health Agency Sierra Leone, convened the second partners’ coordination meeting on Ebola preparedness, bringing together key stakeholders to review the country’s readiness posture and align ongoing support.
The meeting focused on updating partners on the evolving epidemiological situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, where recent developments continue to inform regional preparedness strategies. Participants also assessed Sierra Leone’s current readiness status using the World Health Organization (WHO) Ebola Virus Disease readiness checklist framework.
Discussions centered on strengthening surveillance systems, improving rapid response capacity, and addressing critical gaps in preparedness, with a shared emphasis on early detection and community protection.
Stakeholders further reviewed existing operational plans and coordination mechanisms, reaffirming the importance of a unified, government-led approach supported by technical and humanitarian partners.
The engagement concluded with a renewed commitment from all partners to enhance national readiness and ensure that Sierra Leone remains prepared to respond effectively to any potential outbreak threat, safeguarding public health and community safety.
