An inferno over the weekend destroyed two children and two women, as well as properties worth millions of Leones at Mafanta Prison Junction, Magburaka in the Tonkolili District.

According to eyewitness account the accident occurred around 11:00PM. The cause of the fire is yet unknown, but the police are investigating the matter.

John Turay, a victim and student of Ernest Bai Koroma University told our report that the issue is frustrating, especially the loss of lives. “When I rushed to the scene from my study camp, everything had been burnt down”, adding that he had lost all his academic documents.

Landlord, Mohamed Koroma, revealed to our reporter that three people succumbed to the raging inferno, and properties, including physical cash, burnt to ashes. In a dejected mood, Mohamed told our reporter that his situation is precarious and needed urgent humanitarian assistance. “I want President Bio and his government to come to my rescue” he expressed in agony.

Foday Kargbo, an eyewitness, explained that he tried to rescue the victims, but the inferno had already gone beyond control. “I heard the wailing and painful cries of the deceased, but it was too late” he disclosed, and informed that he was awakened by the shouting of the victims and others in the neighbourhood.

The Local Unit Commander of Magburaka Police Division, Alfonzo Fambulleh, disclosed that the Magburaka Township desperately needs fire engine and that they are asking the government to provide one.
