Vocal Civil Society Activist Urges Fellow Advocates and Journalists to Prioritize Public Interest
Aaron Parker Prominent civil society activist Musa Jalloh popularly known as J Mus has issued a strong call to action, urging fellow civil society organizations and members of the media to speak boldly and act decisively in the interest of the people of Sierra Leone.
In a brief but pointed statement, J Mus expressed disappointment in what he described as the growing silence and complacency among some activists and journalists when it comes to addressing issues affecting ordinary citizens.
“As a civil society activist, I’m disappointed in most of my colleagues for not doing the right thing in the interest of the people of this country,” he said. “Now more than ever, we need to speak truth to power and stand up for justice, accountability, and transparency.”
J Mus emphasized the critical role that civil society and the media play in shaping a more democratic and equitable Sierra Leone, calling on his peers to recommit themselves to their core responsibilities as watchdogs and voices for the voiceless.
“We cannot afford to be silent. We must raise our voices not for ourselves, but for the people whose rights, needs, and dignity are too often ignored,” he added.
His remarks come amid growing public frustration over issues such as economic hardship, lack of transparency, and social inequality topics that civil society groups have historically played a key role in addressing.
J Mus’s call serves as a reminder of the vital civic duty that activists and journalists hold in ensuring that leadership remains accountable and responsive to the people it serves.
