A thirty-year-old commercial bike rider has reportedly died inside a water well in his hometown of Maworr in the Kholifa Mabang Chiefdom, Tonkolili District, Northern Sierra Leone.

The incident occurred around 4pm on the 29th of April 2024.

According to eyewitness accounts, Abdul Koroma and other people in the village were hired to dig a water well owned by one of the sons of that community living in the United States of America. On that fateful day, the witnesses said Koroma was inside the well together with the machine while the others were outside.

It was during this process those present at the scene said Koroma died inside the well. Others say he alerted the other men that he was tired but nobody helped leading to his demise.

Sullay Koroma, father of the deceased bike rider suggested that his son might have died of suffocation because he was inside the well while the machine used to dig the well was on. Though the family says they suspected no foul play, they argue that Koroma died because of the carelessness of the men at the scene. The men, the family said would have saved Koroma from dying.

Hassan Fornah, the Deputy Town Chief of Maworr said the incident was shocking. Fornah said none of the authorities in the village were present at the scene. But the other men present at the scene, Chief Fornah said, informed them Koroma was inside the well and they later of his death after they did not hear from him.

Meanwhile, the matter was reported to the Mile 91 Police Division. Officials attached to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Mile 91 Division are investigating the matter.

Koroma was buried on the 30th of April 2024 in his hometown of Maworr. The incident has flared suspicious among community members. The deceased was married with two children.
