Magistrate Hadiru Daboh has accused employees at Legal Aid Board as salary earners, who are not doing the job they are being paid for.

He made this statement after three accused persons have been behind bars for months without any representative from the Legal Aid Board.

“I told the director of the Legal Aid Board that her employees are just salaries receivers, they’re not doing their Job,” said Magistrate Hadiru K Daboh.

First accused, Hassan Conteh, a Mechanic is standing in two different trials in the same court on two separate count charge of Larceny, contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offense in the first matter, the accused sometime in September 2022 at Shell New Road, Western Area of Freetown did steal one blue digital mobile phone and one gold color Samsung S21 mobile phone, all to the value of thirteen thousand Leones (Le 13,000) property of Abubakar Sankoh.

In another file, the same accused person sometime in October 2020 at 19 Berkeley Street, Gloucester, Western Area of Freetown steal from vehicle registration number AJT 739 one engine, one Trafficator light, the back boot door lock, and the right mirror glass. All to the value of thirty-eight thousand six hundred and fifty Leones (38,650) property of Frederick Henciles.

Finally, a 17yrs-old Claudius Slow, a Labourer is standing trial for Store Breaking and larceny contrary to section 26 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offense on Sunday 4th December 2022 at No.1 25 City Road Wellington, Western Area of Freetown with intent to steal bread, and entered into the store of Abu Bakarr Sesay and stole therein two sets of spring, one streaming box, one angle iron and six hundred empty lice bags all to the total value of nine thousand seven hundred Leones (9,700) Property of Abubakar Sesay.

Deputy Superintendent of police, Fatmata Kuyateh and Assistant Superintendent of police Jeneba Bangura are Prosecuting the matters respectively.

Meanwhile, all accused persons were sent back to the male correctional center in Freetown.
