An Under-five child has reportedly died at the Rokupa Government Hospital few days ago as a result of power outage or lack of electricity.

According to hospital sources, the generator at the hospital was unable to give current that could help sustain the life support machine during the power outage.

The sources said the child was suffering from a serious health condition and urgently needed treatment after his condition got worse.

Media reports also say the child was taken to the Rokupa Hospital for proper treatment, but there was no electricity to power the life support machine. The reports added: “The Chief Medical Superintendent at Rokupa and the Hospital Secretary were not in good terms and also the free medical supplies are not going to the intended beneficiaries.”

Forum Newspaper did try to get several sides including the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOH) to verify the incident before reporting it. However, the Public Relations Officer at MOHS arrogantly and distressfully refused to talk to our reporter. Instead, he only said the Ministry his “currently on routine checks and investigations are ongoing across all Government hospitals” in the country.
