Chinese Mechanic Remanded for Over Alleged $136,000 Fraud Charges
Kadijatu Barrie Liv Jin Jie, a 52-year-old Chinese national and mechanic, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown following serious allegations of fraudulent conversion amounting to over $136,000 USD.
The accused made his initial appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1, where the charge was formally presented.
Liv Jin Jie faces a single count of Fraudulent Conversion, which falls under Section 20 (1)(4)(b) of the Larceny Act of 1916. According to court documents, the alleged offenses took place between October 1 and October 31, 2021.
During this period, it is claimed that Liv fraudulently converted a total of $136,600 USD (approximately Le 3,278,400) for his personal use. This amount was originally entrusted to him by Mohamed Chernor Koroma, intended specifically for the purchase of a rig drilling machine and a stone crusher machine.
As the charges were read and explained in court, Liv Jin Jie did not enter a plea. Magistrate Jah denied bail, determining that the accused should remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The case has been adjourned to July 23, 2025, for the next hearing, as the court continues to address the serious allegations against the mechanic.
