A businessman, Mohamed Nicole, has appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 in Freetown over allegations of obtaining money by false pretences in connection with an alleged Le27,000 Canadian visa scam.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly obtained Le27,000 from the complainant, Foday Mohamed Lamin Kamara, after claiming he could secure a Canadian visa and facilitate travel arrangements for the complainant’s son.
Prosecutors told the court that the alleged offence occurred in November 2025 at Juba Hill, Freetown, where Nicole is accused of making the representations knowing they were false and with the intention of defrauding the complainant.
At the previous hearing, the prosecution indicated that it intended to close its case after presenting its evidence.
Following the close of the prosecution’s case, defence counsel filed a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution had failed to establish sufficient evidence to require the accused to enter a defence.
Magistrate John Manso Fornah subsequently adjourned the matter to July 27, 2026, to allow the prosecution to file a formal response to the defence’s no-case submission before the court rules on the application.
The case is expected to resume on the adjourned date for further proceedings.
