Law enforcement officers at the Wanjama checkpoint have arrested Alpha Kamara, a truck driver from Freetown, after discovering a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa in his vehicle.

Kamara, a resident of No. 88b Old Wharf Road, Wellington, was intercepted while driving a truck with registration number ATB 645. During a routine inspection, officers uncovered six large bundles of the suspected narcotics concealed within the vehicle.

Sergeant Mohammed Massaquoi, the officer in charge of the checkpoint, confirmed the seizure and stated that the drugs had been taken for further examination. Despite the discovery, no individual has claimed ownership of the contraband.

Kamara, who denied any knowledge of the illicit cargo, is currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Authorities at the checkpoint, including police and military personnel, have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling drug trafficking and protecting the public from illicit substances. They have urged members of the public with any information regarding the case to come forward.

ASP Mohammed Hindolo Feika, Regional Crime Officer for the Eastern Region, assured the public that law enforcement agencies would take all necessary measures to combat drug-related crimes.
