Twenty-nine-year-old Moses Kanikay Sesay has been sentenced to seven months imprisonment by Magistrate Mary Julia Gbloh of Pademba Road Court No.5 in Freetown on five count charges of careless and inconsiderate driving, driving an unlicensed vehicle, and driving a vehicle without third party insurance risk contrary to Section 101 of the Road Traffic Act of 2007, Section 5 of the Road Traffic Act No.5 of 2007, and Section 3(1)(a) Cap 133 of the Laws of Sierra Leone 1960.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, he pleaded guilty to all five count charges.
According to the particulars of offence, on Thursday 12 March 2026 at about 15:50 hours along Peninsula Road, Juba, Freetown, the accused, being the actual driver in control of a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number ASH 603, drove carelessly and inconsiderately in respect of vehicles with registration numbers AWR 400 and AYT 689.
On counts three, four and five, on the same date and place, the accused drove an unlicensed vehicle and also drove the said vehicle without third party insurance coverage.
Delivering her judgment, Magistrate Mary Julia Gbloh stated that the accused had admitted to the offences by pleading guilty and that such traffic violations pose serious danger to other road users. She added that the court would not take such offences lightly and sentenced him to seven months imprisonment to serve as a deterrent to others.
The matter was prosecuted by Sergeant 5598 S. Koroma.
